Dean Stephen Mountjoy reports that for the second year in a row NNU did it! The WasteSmart team out of the School of Business came in third place in the SPU Social Venture Plan Competition Showcase on April 17, and won a $1,000 prize to go along with it! Last year the NNU entry Gru also placed third in the SPU Competition.
The WasteSmart team of Jimmie Gorman, Sergio Mendoza, and Courtney Gilbert performed exceptionally among the 32 teams competing. In the pursuit of cleaning up disease harboring waste and turning it into useful, desirable, and profitable products, WasteSmart incinerates waste and creates briquettes out of the ash.Other judges complemented them on the skill and enthusiasm of their presentation! The team was well prepared and used a prototype of their device, together with multimedia Prezi presentations on TV and iPads, to create support for their project among the judges.
The second NNU team, Douemore, also performed wonderfully during the Showcase, although they did not finish in the top three. Congratulations are due to all the competitors and thanks to all those of you who helped prepare them with counsel, coaching and advice!
